This report describes an environmental scan of predictive analytics conducted by the RP Group as a companion to the Multiple Measures Assessment Project and the California Community College Common Assessment Initiative. It explores the possibilities associated with the use of predictive analytics and “big data” in higher education, and notes several ethical concerns. The report also describes the human resources and data considerations the development of an effective "center for data science" serving the California Community Colleges system, including issues related to data sources and quality, storage and management, and system integration.
