Visibility Guide

Behind every data point is a student and their story. We believe that data can be a powerful tool for improving education, especially for historically marginalized students. However, responsible and ethical data use requires a critical understanding of how our data practices shape the very experiences we aim to improve, ensuring we amplify students' voices, not silence them.

The RP Group's Visibility Guide: An Examination of Aggregation and Suppression Practices in Race and Ethnicity Data examines how aggregation and suppression practices can hide or silence student experiences.

Specific examples within the guide highlight the ways these practices negatively affect certain student groups. The guide also offers principles for more inclusive data practices for practitioners to consider when collecting, analyzing, and reporting student data to illuminate student voices.
