Practically Speaking: Community College Practices that Help (Re)define Student Support (Practitioner Primer)

April 2014

This resource offers community college practitioners examples of specific institutional and statewide efforts, programmatic approaches, and individual practices that demonstrate the Student Support (Re)defined study's five key themes. This primer starts with a brief overview of the Student Support (Re)defined findings followed by a discussion of what this research can look like in action. The primer then highlights 23 examples organized by key theme, including two practices that address all of the themes. Although the practices primarily hail from California’s community colleges, this primer highlights a few examples from other states. This guide integrates discussion questions at key points throughout the primer to encourage reflection and conversation about strengthening student support at the campus level, based on this primer’s featured practices.
