What is the IRPE Summer-to-Summer Institute 2024–25?

The IRPE Summer-to-Summer Institute 2024–25 provides an immersive 10-month, three-path learning experience for Newcomers, Seasoned Professionals, and Veterans. This inclusive learning experience for IRPE professionals focuses on equity-minded leadership and social justice for California’s community colleges. Within this context, participants will identify their goals and learning priorities at the onset of the institute to help unpack how these goals can positively impact student equity and success.

We will build community by supporting networking between participants with common goals/interests, providing structured thought partnership engagements, and cultivating deeper mentorship connections where appropriate. Participants will leverage their Summer-to-Summer Institute learning and relationships to develop and present a Capstone Project that celebrates individuals’ personal and/or professional growth throughout Summer-to-Summer Institute among their peers. Capstone Project celebrations can cover anything and everything from building IRPE foundations, to sharing outcomes with long-term college work projects, to highlighting one’s personal and/or professional learning around equity, diversity, and inclusion within the context of IRPE and California community colleges.

Who Should Attend the IRPE Summer-to-Summer Institute?

The IRPE Summer-to-Summer Institute 2024–25 is a professional development opportunity designed to validate, engage, and build upon diverse experiences and backgrounds IRPE professionals bring to the field. Any IRPE professional who is interested in advancing student equity and social justice at their college or district is invited to participate. The institute will include three Mastery Paths (Newcomers, Seasoned Professionals, and Veterans). The institute will leverage interactive breakout sessions, panel presentations, scenario-based learning experiences, and Canvas learning modules (which will be accessible to participants until June 2026).

When is the IRPE Summer-to-Summer Institute?

The IRPE Summer-to-Summer Institute 2024–25 will begin with a 2.5-day in-person kick-off event from Tuesday, August 6 to Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the Sheraton Fairplex Suites & Conference Center in Pomona, CA. In addition, virtual sessions focused on topics relevant to each of the three Mastery Paths will be offered during the fall (September–November 2024) and spring (January–May 2025) semesters. The institute will culminate with a wrap-up event and participant project showcase June 3–4, 2025 at the Sheraton Fairplex Suites & Conference Center.

What Can I Expect?

At the IRPE Summer-to-Summer Institute 2024–25, participants can expect to connect with IRPE colleagues from across the state who are committed to advancing student equity and social justice across California’s community colleges. Participants can also expect to engage in—and, in some cases, help to lead—discussions in IRPE-focused breakout sessions and activities. Participants can also expect to share their personal equity goals, discuss their professional development needs, ask questions, and partner with peers to support success with participants’ personal and professional goals. Participants will complete the IRPE Summer-to-Summer Institute 2024–25 with tools, resources, strategies, and a peer support network to advance student equity and social justice across colleges and districts.
