Dr. Joyce Lui

Dr. Joyce Lui is Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness & Educational Services at San José Evergreen Community College District. Prior to her current role, she served as the Dean of Research, Planning, & Institutional Effectiveness at San José City College. She served as the College's Accreditation Liaison Officer. She oversaw the strategic planning efforts, research, and governance. She has publications in Race, Ethnicity, & Education and Community College Journal of Research and Practice. She is a founding member of the Journal of Critical Thought & Praxis. She is a board member of the Community College Journal of Research and Practice. She has presented at the Council for the Student of Community Colleges, American Educational Research Association, and Research, Planning, & Professional Development for California Community Colleges (RP Group). Prior to her interest in research, she worked in student affairs. She has experience in student activities, service learning, and new student orientation.
Joyce Lui was born in Hong Kong and spent her formative years in San Francisco. She received her Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis in Social Justice and a graduate certificate in Applied Research Methods from Iowa State University. She earned her M.A. in Post-Secondary Educational Leadership-Student Affairs from San Diego State University. She received her baccalaureate in Economics and Sociology from the University of California, San Diego.
